Description of game species
In the LPN Kočevsko area, the most important game species are red deer, roe deer, and wild boar. All three species of large carnivores—brown bear, wolf, and lynx—are permanently present. It was in the Kočevski Rog area that the lynx was reintroduced in 1973. This was one of the most successful lynx reintroductions in Europe, as the species spread from Slovenia across the entire Dinaric mountain range.Hunting tourism
Traditional forms of hunting are carried out in the hunting grounds, primarily for red deer, wild boar, and roe deer. The most common hunting methods are stalking, high-stand hunting, and rut-season red deer hunting. In late autumn and winter, group hunts are organized in open nature, mainly for wild boar and deer. The terrain is varied, well-maintained, and accessible, allowing hunting for anyone who chooses to participate. In accordance with the decision of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food on the culling of certain protected species, the hunting grounds may also offer the harvest of brown bear. In addition to the hunt itself, hunting provides a direct and authentic experience of pristine nature inhabited by the most attractive large carnivores—brown bear, lynx, and wolf. Besides hunting, guests can also enjoy guided wildlife and large carnivore observation in the company of a district hunter.
Special purpose
In LPN Kočevsko, in addition to sustainable management of game, wildlife species, and their habitats, we participate in various projects, monitoring activities, and scientific research. Special attention is given to vital populations of endangered and protected species and their habitats. Among the endangered species present in the hunting grounds are the white-tailed eagle, golden eagle, capercaillie, and others. The protected species include primarily the large carnivores: brown bear, lynx, and wolf.Accommodation and catering services
Hunting guests can stay within LPN Kočevsko, either in hunting lodges where professional district hunters reside or in hunting cabins. Staying within the hunting grounds offers an authentic connection with nature inhabited by game, as well as opportunities for observing wildlife and other free-living animals.
